AudioCodes 400HD Series IP Phone Password Recovery

Recover administrator access on an AudioCodes 400HD series IP phone: reset via the administration menu, the web interface, or the OK + MENU hardware method when the password is unknown.

Overview

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for resetting lost or forgotten administrative passwords on enterprise networking hardware. Follow the procedure below carefully to regain access while preserving your device configuration.

Prerequisites

Before proceeding with password recovery, ensure you have a console cable, terminal emulation software configured to 9600 baud, and physical access to the device.

Step 1: Establish Console Connection

Connect your terminal cable to the console port of the device and open your serial terminal session.

Step 2: Interrupt the Boot Sequence

Power cycle the hardware and issue a Break key sequence during initial system startup to enter ROMMON mode.

Step 3: Reset Password & Configuration

Bypass startup configuration loading, boot into system software, set your new credentials, and save changes back to non-volatile memory.

Overview

AudioCodes 400HD series phones (405HD, 420HD, 430HD, 440HD, 450HD and the C-series variants) protect the Administration menu with an administrator password, default 1234. The account, SIP and provisioning settings are held in the phone's configuration, so the documented recovery is to restore the phone to factory defaults and re-provision it.

Restore defaults from the phone screen

  1. Press the Menu key.
  2. Scroll to Administration and press OK.
  3. Enter the administrator password (default 1234) and press OK.
  4. Scroll to Restore Defaults and press OK.
  5. Confirm on the warning screen with the Yes softkey. The phone restores defaults and reboots.

Restore defaults from the web interface

  1. Browse to the phone's IP address from a computer on the same network.
  2. Go to Management > Administration > Restore Defaults.
  3. Click Submit and confirm with OK.

Restore defaults without the administrator password

Use this when the administration menu is unreachable, the web interface cannot be opened, or the administrator password is unknown:

  1. Press and hold the OK and MENU keys simultaneously.
  2. While keeping both keys pressed, unplug the power cable (or the Ethernet cable if the phone is PoE-powered).
  3. Plug the power or LAN cable back in, still holding OK and MENU, for about 5 seconds.
  4. Release both keys. The phone's settings are restored to their defaults.
